Auto Racing Exhibit & Presentation

Exhibit Through October 15

Oil, Autos, and Ovals: Racing in America

If you’re a lover of racing, you’ll be excited to hear about our exhibit and program – Oil, Autos, and Ovals: Racing in America.

The exhibit runs through October 15 and chronicles a century of the most heart and ground pounding automotive racing in Iowa and on super speedway tracks across the country. More than 100 models signed by NASCAR, Indy car, Funny car and Sprint car drivers will be featured. They represent more than 75 years of history, from racing’s Golden Age through today.

Local historian David V. Wendell will present “Dirt to Superspeedway: Iowa Legends in Racing” on Saturday, August 6 at 1:00 pm. Guests may try on uniforms of their favorite drivers, or take the wheel of remote-control race cars in the “Marion 500.” Prizes will be awarded as cars cross the finish line.

The afternoon’s activities will conclude with a special screening of the 1990 NASCAR movie “Days of Thunder,” starring Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman, beginning at 3:30 pm.

Admission to the exhibit and program are free thanks to support from GreenState Credit Union, the City of Marion Hotel/Motel Grant, and The McIntyre Foundation.
